Wolf Eyes CNT: Pierre Bastien & Louis Laurain

Against Entertainment kicks off Holy Monday with the coming of Wolf Eyes, the legendary American noise act known for its radical sounds and unique performances. Representatives of the best of early industrial music—such as the loose but fertile connections with the avant-garde and academia, the political consciousness, the penetration into detail, the protean and expansive spirit, the ability to shock the audience—this outfit of negative, inverted psychedelia replaces the composition of objects with a process that vomits, oozes and exhales strange and frightening psycho jazz and trip metal entities, applying a production regime that accumulates hundreds of records and constitutes a pain in the arse for the rhythms of the calendar and the promotional strategies of the music industry. Throughout their thirty years of existence, this constant sonic mutation—currently operated by Nate Young and John Olson—has led them to tour with Sonic Youth and collaborate with Merzbow, Anthony Braxton, Smegma, Marshall Allen or Richard Pinhas.

Previously, the automaton and contraption builder Pierre Bastien, a prolific and highly influential composer of experimental music whose extensive list of collaborators includes not only musicians (Robert Wyatt, Jaki Liebezeit, Jac Berrocal or Lukas Simonis) but also video artists (Pierrick Sorin) or fashion designers (Issey Miyake), and who released three albums on Rephlex—the label of Aphex Twin and Grant-Wilson Claridge—will present with fellow French virtuoso trumpeter and cornetist Louis Laurain, who has worked with Stephen O’Malley or Elian Radigue, the duo’s first album as CNT (orchestral abbreviation for cornet), an electro-acoustic fiesta of organic avant-techno and free jazz!

Supported by Disciplina and Sindicato Circular, this inaugural event will also feature performances by Madame Mim owner Polifeme, with its pure, electric sound and its unusual devices such as electrocardiograph, radar and radio tv; the drenched-in-feedback digianalog cathartic noise project of ÑÑÑ & Massengrab, Cenotaph, and the dark ambient/drone made out of homemade metal instruments by Valencian industrial culture agent Bavs.

Against Entertainment comienza el Lunes Santo con la venida de Wolf Eyes, el legendario grupo norteamericano de noise conocido por sus sonidos radicales y sus performances únicas. Representantes de lo mejor de la música industrial primigenia —como las laxas pero fértiles conexiones con las vanguardias y la academia, la conciencia política, la penetración en el detalle, el espíritu proteico y expansivo, la capacidad de conmocionar a la audiencia—, esta banda de psicodelia negativa, invertida, sustituye la composición de objetos por un proceso que vomita, supura y exhala incesantemente extrañas y atemorizantes entidades psycho jazz y trip metal, aplicando un régimen de producción que acumula cientos de discos y la convierte en una mosca cojonera para los ritmos del calendario y las estrategias promocionales de la industria de la música. A lo largo de sus treinta años de existencia, esta constante mutación sónica —dirigida actualmente por Nate Young y John Olson— les ha llevado a girar con Sonic Youth y a colaborar con Merzbow, Anthony Braxton, Smegma, Marshall Allen o Richard Pinhas.

Antes, el constructor de autómatas y artilugios Pierre Bastien, prolífico compositor de música experimental cuya extensa lista de artistas colaboradores abarca no sólo músicos (Robert Wyatt, Jaki Liebezeit, Jac Berrocal o Lukas Simonis) sino también videoartistas (Pierrick Sorin) o diseñadores de moda (Issey Miyake), y quien publicó tres álbumes en Rephlex —el sello de Aphex Twin y Grant-Wilson Claridge—, presentará junto al virtuoso trompetista y cornetista francés Louis Laurain, quien ha trabajado con Stephen O’Malley o Elian Radigue, el primer álbum del dúo como CNT (abreviatura orquestal de corneta), ¡una fiesta electroacústica de avant-techno orgánico y free jazz!

Apoyado por Disciplina y Sindicato Circular, este evento inaugural contará con las actuaciones de la propietaria de Madame Mim, Polifeme, con su sonido puro y eléctrico y sus dispositivos inusuales, como el electrocardiógrafo, el radar o la radiotelevisión; el proyecto de noise catártico digianalógico empapado en feedback de ÑÑÑ y Massengrab, Cenotaph, y el dark ambient/drone hecho a partir de instrumentos metalúrgicos caseros del agente de la cultura industrial valenciana Bavs.
